Gueuze blendery Ambreus, Buizingen

Ambreus is the gueuze blendery of Pieterjan Decoster, his brother Erik and their father Jean-Pierre. Already in 2018, they dreamed of blending their own Oude Geuze. In 2020, they filled the first 24 barrels with wort from Den Herberg, De Troch and Lindemans. However, to make an Oude Geuze, lambic of different ages is required. As a result, the barrel arsenal continued to expand. Father Jean-Pierre’s garage quickly became too small. That is why they moved the casks to the former café ‘De Kleine Ardennen’ in Buizingen. There was plenty of room there because behind the café there is an old banquet hall. Their first Oude Geuze from Ambreus was presented on June 15, 2024. At that time there were already 170 barrels in the warehouse, some 13,500 liters of lambic in total.

Ambreus is not their main professional activity. All three still have another job. The name Ambreus is a combination of the words ‘geus’ and ‘ambrosia’, symbolizing a timeless and divine drinking experience. In Greek mythology, ambrosia was divine food and was the drink of the gods.
